Netherlands hockey players managed to avoid humiliation against the USA in the Pro League. National coach Paul van As’s side fell 2-0 in London but managed to turn the loss into a win after the break. In the end it was 3-2 at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Center in London.
This is the second clash between the two countries in four days. Last Saturday, the Dutch women had a tough first half, but they still outscored the USA 6-0 after halftime.
The now Olympic champion fell behind in the first minute. Tamer Abigail gave the U.S. the lead, and Rodgers’ Megan made it 2-0 in the 35th minute. Then it turned orange. Joosje Burg scored twice before Renée van Laarhoven scored the winning goal in the 55th minute.

The Netherlands are third in the Pro League. However, the situation presents a distorted picture. Orange won nine of the ten games played and drew one. Leaders Australia have already played sixteen games, with 2nd placed Argentina on fifteen.
Van As’ next game in the Pro League is against Germany in Amsterdam on Friday.
