Google Now Lets You Create Your Own AI Assistant: It’s That Easy

Google Gemini laat je nu je eigen persoonlijke chatbots maken

Google is letting users of its Gemini chatbot create their own AI assistants, called “Gems.” The company wants to compete with Custom GPTs, a similar initiative from OpenAI. Making your own gem is easy.

Gems are personal chatbots that you can customize to your own liking. Whether you need help planning your home interior, coming up with new ideas, or improving your writing skills, there’s a gem for that. The great thing is that you get to define your gem’s personality yourself.

He – She Create Medium Simple. Google Gemini users just need to describe what they want. For example: “Create a cooking assistant to help me come up with new recipes using ingredients I already have at home.” Google’s AI does the rest.

For those who don’t want to create their own gems right away, Google also offers ready-made options. Think learning coach, editor, or even a career coach.

Competition with OpenAI

With this move, Google appears to be competing with OpenAI, which has been offering AI personal assistants for some time. However, the difference is that users can also offer their own custom GPTs to other users via the online store within ChatGPT. Currently, this is not yet possible with Gems.

Gems will be available to Gemini Advanced, Gemini Business, and Gemini Enterprise users in the coming weeks. The app is rolling out to over 150 countries and supports most languages.

Generate images from people

Google is also trying to polish Gemini’s image with gems. Earlier this year, there was an uproar when Google’s AI system produced inappropriate images, including racially incorrect representations of historical figures. The company subsequently temporarily disabled the ability to view people’s images to make improvements.

Now, six months later, Google is ready to start again, but with extra precautions. What’s more, the rollout is only on a limited scale. The feature will roll out to Gemini Advanced business users in the coming days. Other users will slowly but surely follow, but Google doesn’t offer a specific timeline.
