Outpost – Kreuzkerk Square in Buitenpost was full of people on Sunday afternoon during the charity concert held by the Ukrainian Liberation Orchestra under the conductor Jeroen Wierink. The ceremony was attended by a number of famous Ukrainian opera singers.
Famous musicians
The Ukrainian Orchestra consists of famous Ukrainian musicians who fled to the Netherlands because of the war. Jeroen Werink is the founder of the Ukrainian Liberation Orchestra.
Before the war, members of this orchestra played in famous symphony and opera orchestras in Kiev, Kharkiv, Donsk and Dnipro. They now perform all over the Netherlands and work alongside Ukrainian singers and soloists to support their compatriots through music and their livelihoods.
Flowers are like hope
In the run-up to the ceremony, Ukrainian women from the municipalities of Akhkarspylen and Westerkortyr, together with their fellow villagers, made flowers for the “Flowers as a Sign of Hope” exhibition. The flower art on display can be viewed and sold in the afternoon.
All proceeds from the charity concert will go to rebuilding the destroyed conservatory in Kharkiv.
