French diplomat expelled after one day over prostitutes in official residence | outside

A senior French diplomat was sent home as soon as he got a new job. The prostitutes’ parties are said to have been staged at his official residence in Marrakesh, Morocco.

Career diplomat Philippe Casnave began last Tuesday, after working for nearly twenty years in various embassies, as “chief of protocol” at the French Foreign Ministry in Paris, according to news site Politico. This is a prestigious position where he will be responsible for receiving distinguished foreign guests.

Politico wrote that Casnave was “fired within hours.” He started in the morning and returned to the street in the afternoon. “He is suspected of misusing state property when he was the French consul in Marrakesh, Morocco, from 2017 to 2021,” he added.

It is the official residence of the consul: a large house with a garden and a swimming pool. The diplomat is said to have “lent” the house to a friend. The friend used the formal lodging, cutlery and formal crockery as if it were his home. There he received young friends, possibly prostitutes, “according to the site in secret documents from the ministry. Morally, this is unacceptable. It is an abuse that has damaged the reputation of the consulate.”

The State Department declined to comment on the matter. Casnaff could not be reached for comment. Politico relies on confidential documents and statements by officials who wish to remain anonymous.

Casnave’s dismissal led to bewilderment among these officials. “How could someone not be fully vetted before being hired?” One of them wonders.
