Next Tuesday is the day: Apple will introduce the new sensation in smartphones. In this article, we give you three reasons to look forward to the iPhone 15.

3 reasons to switch to iPhone 15

The iPhone 15 hasn’t been released yet, but Apple will introduce it next Tuesday (starting at 7:00 PM Netherlands time).

As in previous years, the new iPhone series consists of four devices, including two budget versions and two Pro iPhones. The cheaper versions are particularly interesting this year: the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. Below you can read what makes the phones so special.

1. iPhone 15 gets USB-C

All iPhone 15 models (and therefore also the iPhone Pro) have a completely different port: USB-C instead of Lightning. This has many advantages.

The first is that USB-C is universal: almost all (new) electronic devices have this charging port. This means you can use the same cable for different devices, including your iPad and MacBook. One cable is all you need.

In addition, USB-C supports faster charging speeds than Lightning. According to rumors, the iPhone 15 Pro could support 35W of power, which will push the battery towards one hundred percent much faster. For comparison, the iPhone 14 Pro has a maximum charging capacity of 27W.

With the more expensive iPhone 15 Pro models, transferring files (such as photos and videos) will also be faster using USB-C. According to rumors, this speed may reach 40 Gbps, while Lightning speed is only 480 Mbps.

2. Dynamic Island

Live activities on the dynamic island

Apple introduced the Dynamic Island with the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max last year. This is a hole in the camera screen that can also display content. This concerns different types of information, such as timer, media player, notifications, and calls.

This dynamic island will be coming to all iPhone 15 models this year, including the cheaper iPhone 15 (Plus). This makes them look a lot like their professional brethren. Not only does it look beautiful, the dynamic island is easy to use and interactive as well.

3. 48-megapixel camera

iPhone 14 camera

The 48-megapixel camera is currently exclusive to the most expensive iPhones, but soon that will no longer be the case. Apple brings the sensor to the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.

With the 48MP camera, you can capture more details, because it has more pixels to make up the image. This means your photos will be sharper and clearer, especially if you enlarge or crop them.

By default, the iPhone 15 camera will still take 12-megapixel photos. Thanks to pixel binning technology (combining four adjacent pixels on the sensor into one pixel), images are better exposed. The camera can collect more light, resulting in better photos in the dark. Images have less noise and more color, because each pixel contains more information.

Other innovations

Above you can read about the most important innovations, but there is more:

  • The iPhone 15 will have curved edges at the back instead of flat edges. This gives it a more streamlined look, similar to the iPhone 11 (Pro).
  • The device will be powered by the A16 Bionic chip, which is faster and more energy efficient than the A15 chip found in the iPhone 14 Pro. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max contain the new A17 chip.
  • The iPhone 15 will have a 3,877 mAh battery, which is larger than the iPhone 14’s 3,687 mAh battery. The processor is also more efficient, so battery life will likely improve.
  • The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are said to be available in five colors: black, pink, yellow, blue, and green.
