‘Ex-NSA employee sold classified US data’ – News

A former NSA official tried to sell classified US information to a foreign government. At least that’s what the FBI says. The suspect has been charged with espionage.

The 30-year-old briefly worked for the NSA earlier this year. On July 29, shortly after his departure, he allegedly contacted someone posing as a foreign agent through an encrypted email service, the US Department of Justice reports. Actually, it was an undercover FBI agent. The suspect was arrested in Denver on September 28.

Shared passages from documents

The suspect allegedly provided the secret agent with highly sensitive information about US cyber operations. He shared excerpts from three classified documents and fully classified documents from US government agencies. It was later revealed through log files that showed classified documents were printed through the suspect’s NSA user account. The suspect offered information in exchange for cryptocurrencies. The former NSA employee reportedly told an FBI agent he owed about $237,000.
