The World Bank wants to provide more financial assistance to Ukraine, including ’emergency repair projects’ in the transport, energy and housing sectors. Anna Bjerde, one of the executive committee members, said before the conference about the recovery of Ukraine.
The conference, which starts tomorrow in London, is about the reconstruction of Ukraine. For example, the country wants to focus on sustainable steel production in the long run. In the short term, however, the country is struggling with infrastructure and homes destroyed and an energy grid damaged by Russian bombing. Private parties such as investment funds will also participate in the conference.
The World Bank has so far transferred more than 19 billion euros to Kyiv, mainly in the form of grants. In the coming period, the lender wants to increase support for Ukrainian farmers and ensure that households are ready for the winter, Reuters reports. For example, according to the World Bank, 700 million euros are needed for housing repairs alone. In March, the organization estimated that at least 376 billion euros were needed to repair the total damage after a year of war.
