ESPN has issued an apology for showing a woman flashing her breasts during its broadcast of Monday’s college football semifinal game between Washington and Texas in the Sugar Bowl.
In the third quarter of the game, ESPN used a camera shot panning across Bourbon Street in New Orleans’ French Quarter, a typical transition done at bowl games to show the host city before play resumes. In the shot, a woman can be seen looking up and revealing the top of her shirt, flashing her cleavage. The woman then covered her chest before the clip ended.
ESPN acknowledged the incident and apologized for showing it to a national audience.
“We regret this happened and apologize for broadcasting the video on broadcast television,” ESPN’s Bill Hofheimer said He said in a statement to the Associated Press.
Camera shots of cities and outdoor areas are usually captured before the match, and footage of the incident quickly spread on social media after it was broadcast.
Washington would go on to defeat Texas, 37-31to set up a matchup with Michigan in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game on January 8.
