At least 38 people were injured in a fire that broke out on the 20th floor of an apartment complex in Manhattan, New York. According to the American CNN news channel At least two people are in a critical condition and at least five others have been seriously injured.

Police say the fire was caused by a lithium-ion battery. These batteries are often used in electric scooters and e-bikes. According to the fire service, six people have died this year in fires caused by such batteries.

She was hanging from a window and firefighters helped her with ropes in an apartment below. It is not clear if she sustained any injuries.

In addition to this woman, another person was rescued using ropes, the fire service told CNN.

Authorities believe residents of the apartment where the fire broke out were repairing bicycles. The New York Times reports that there are five e-bikes in the house, despite a ban on e-bikes entering the building.
