Blackhawks player Connor Bedard is out of the game due to injury after suffering a severe injury Originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
Chicago Blackhawks rookie phenom Connor Bedard left in the first period of Friday’s game against the New Jersey Devils with an undisclosed injury. The team announced at the beginning of the second half that it would miss the remainder of the competition.
The play occurred midway through the first period when Devils defenseman Brendan Smith delivered a hard hit to Bedard, who was seen holding his mouth before heading to the locker room. no longer.
Philipp Kurashev immediately came to his teammate’s defence, as did Nick Foligno, who suffered two harsh penalties. Not only did the Blackhawks kill the penalty kick, they scored on the power play to make it 1-0.
Blackhawks coach Luke Richardson did not provide many updates on Bedard after the game, saying they would have more information on Saturday.
“I think it’s clear he hit his head,” Richardson said. “But I got there now and I didn’t hear anything except everyone going home. We’ll check it out at home.”
For the most part, the Blackhawks don’t seem to have a problem with Smith’s hit on Bedard. Boris Kachuk was the exception.
“I mean everyone saw it,” Kashuk said. “It’s dirty, so I guess it’s dirty.”
Losing Bedard is a tough blow for the Blackhawks, who have seven players on injured reserve. Three of those players — Taylor Radish (groin), Tyler Johnson (foot) and Anthony Beauvillier (wrist) — were placed on IR during this five-game road trip.
