Apple released iOS 16.6.1 for iPhone tonight. iPadOS 16.6.1 for iPad was released at the same time. This version of iOS 16 includes important security fixes. The advice is to update as soon as possible.

iOS 16.6.1 is the successor to iOS 16.6, which was released over a month ago. This update did not include any new functionality at that time, it only contained bug fixes. The fact that Apple is now offering another temporary update shows that something needs to be resolved very quickly. Obviously we can’t wait for iOS 17, the major update for the iPhone this year. It will be published in about a week and a half.

There is reportedly a vulnerability in Wallet, but exact details are still not available. It’s a mystery to us why Apple didn’t opt ​​for a quick security measure – the quickest way for Apple to solve such issues.

Download iOS 16.6.1

The red refresh dot will appear automatically soon in your iPhone’s Settings app. Click on the red icon and it will automatically take you to where you need to be for the update.

iOS 17 is coming

In iOS 16.6.1 you won’t find any new features, but that’s different in iOS 17.
