Angel Reese finished with a career-high 25 points and 16 rebounds in a win over Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever.

Angel Reese The Chicago Sky defeated Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever, 88-87, on Sunday in front of a star-studded crowd at Wintrust Arena.

WNBA Hall of Famer Cheryl Swoopes, New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson, rapper Chance the Rapper and Lil Durk, and actor Jason Sudeikis were all in Chicago to watch the third meeting between the two teams this season.

Clark and The Fever had won the previous two matches, but luck the third time was in favor of Sky, who prevailed in a tense match. Game.

Reese had a dominant outing, finishing with a career-high 25 points and 16 rebounds to extend her WNBA double-double streak to eight straight games, becoming the third player in league history to reach that mark joining Sylvia Fowles and Candace Parker.

Clarke provided a franchise-record 13 assists in the defeat to the Sky.

In the previous two meetings between the Sky and Fever this WNBA season, the tough nature of the event was the main talking point.

In both matches, Clarke was on the receiving end of flagrant fouls, The first is from Chindi Carter And then From Reese. But Sunday’s game was played largely without incident.

The first half started off tough, with seven draws and eight lead changes. However, the Fever took a 15-point lead midway through the third quarter, but the Sky stormed back and tied the game at 82 with three minutes left.

With the score tied at 84 with less than a minute left, Reese made a driving layup to put Chicago up by two. Team Sky would maintain the lead for their sixth win of the season.

Reese top-scored for Chicago, while Carter assisted her with 23 points. For Indiana State, Kelsey Mitchell scored a team-high 24 points with Rookie of the Year Aliyah Boston adding 18 points.

The 22-year-old Reese became the first rookie in Sky franchise history with 20 or more points and 15 or more rebounds in a game, while Clarke set a piece of history of her own, becoming the first rookie in WNBA history with 15+ points, 10+ assists. And 5+ three-pointers per game.

The rivalry between Clark and Reese has been well-documented since their high-profile showdown in the 2023 NCAA Championship game.

Angle and Clark became two of the WNBA’s biggest stars even in their rookie seasons.

“It’s good for the game, it’s good for women’s basketball, but it’s also good for women’s sports,” Reese said of the crowd. Per ESPN. “You see NBA players and rappers and legends who have been in the league for a long time coming out and showing support. You know everyone is watching now.

“I think this is one of the biggest times right now, and we just keep going. I thought both teams tonight did a great job of putting on a show. It was fun. I had a great time, and I’m sure the other team had a great time.”

The win means the Sky improve to 6-9 on the season, while the defeat ended Indiana’s four-game winning streak and dropped to 7-11.

Chicago is eighth in the WNBA standings while the Fever are ninth behind them.
