The late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny will be buried in Moscow on Friday. There is also a farewell ceremony in the church on that day. A spokesman told Reuters news agency. There are no other details about the farewell yet.

His wife, Yulia Navalnaya, says it is still unclear whether the funeral will be “peaceful.” She delivered a speech before the European Parliament in Strasbourg today. “Or Putin will order the arrest of people who come to say goodbye to my husband.”

“I’m not sure if my husband’s funeral will be peaceful.”

Navalny’s body was delivered to his mother this weekend. Russian authorities have long refused to release his body. According to the team surrounding Navalny, the authorities wanted to prevent any traces of poisoning from being found in his body.

Navalnaya has already accused Russian authorities of killing Navalny using the Novichok nerve agent that was used to attack him in 2020. It is still unclear what information those statements provided. She said that the team would later provide evidence and the names of the perpetrators, but that had not happened yet.

According to investigative journalist and Navalny ally Maria Pevchich, he was a candidate for a prisoner exchange shortly before his death. She says Putin did not want to release him, so he killed him.

He died in a penal colony
