The right player is enjoying a solid campaign in 2021 and will start the Cardinals National League game next week. He’s 17-7 with a 3.05 ERA in 32 starts, including three complete games and two closings. His 206 innings so far are his biggest since 2014.

Wainwright has won 10 of his past 11 decisions with 11 good starts during that time.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch newspaper first reported the extension.
