Adam Wainwright, St. Louis Cardinals Reach One-Year Deal for 2022

The St. Louis Cardinals reach a one-year extension for 2022 with ace Adam Wainwright, announced Friday.

“I don’t want to be anywhere else,” said the 40-year-old, who has performed for the team throughout his career. “Who am I kidding?”

The terms of the deal were not yet available.

The right player is enjoying a solid campaign in 2021 and will start the Cardinals National League game next week. He’s 17-7 with a 3.05 ERA in 32 starts, including three complete games and two closings. His 206 innings so far are his biggest since 2014.

Wainwright has won 10 of his past 11 decisions with 11 good starts during that time.
