From Rutger Hauer Blade Runner To Carice van Houten game of thronesThe Dutch sometimes manage to go far in the world of international cinema. How do you end up in a place like this? Three representatives talk to NU.nl about the international opportunities that exist today.

Auditions at home with a regular group of friends
Klink does this with a steady group of actor friends, like Teun Stokkel and Reiky de Valk. “It’s good to have people who understand you and can play well. One audition for a role, the other gives counter-play. As often happens we want to play the same role. That certainly doesn’t make us competitors who can get it, that’s a blessing.” .
Hanna van Vliet also ended up on an international set thanks to this self-titled tape. the Ann +The actress has been seen in the National Geographic series since early May small lightas Resistance heroine Frieda Bellenfant.
“A very strange coincidence,” says Van Fleet. “I was already doing research because I wanted to do something about it, and then all of a sudden my agent in London came up with this part. Normally I never write a self-bar note, but now I did. It’s nice to let me know that you already know the subject well.”
However, it turned out that this was not just an advantage. “It’s a really huge series about Miep Gies, so Frieda is kind of a C-line. That takes some getting used to. I knew a lot of details about her life, but of course the series isn’t about her. In Holland I’m used to you anyway, no You can still interfere a little in terms of content, but here you work with a completely different structure.
More hope for Dutch origins
However, the Dutch language should not be a problem. There is also international success for the non-English language series. Just look at the latest songs in the world like La Casa de Papel And Squid game. Therefore, Van Fleet and Van der Steer are strong supporters of the new investment law.
Broadcasting platforms with a turnover of at least 10 million euros in the Netherlands must invest 5 percent of that amount in Dutch productions, according to the alliance’s plan. For comparison, this is the case in France 20 percent“But of course it’s great that these budgets are pouring into Dutch content,” says Van Vliet. “With this money from broadcasters, we hope to be able to make quality fiction as an industry.”
“Maybe we can cross borders more often with such a strong chain,” van der Steer says. “So you can conquer the world from Holland with an original idea.”
