A major highway in Sweden has been closed for months due to a major landslide. Hundreds of meters of the E6 road between Gothenburg and the Norwegian capital Oslo were severely damaged by a mudslide. .
About ten thousand vehicles use the E6 daily. It is one of the most important traffic arteries in Scandinavia.
On Friday night into Saturday, a mudslide destroyed a large area of the road. Three people were injured when cars and a bus fell into cracks. Two people remain in hospital.

The pictures show the extent of the damage. An area of approximately 700 x 200 meters was affected. Traffic is now being diverted via a much narrower road east of the E6 motorway. There were already long traffic jams there today due to an accident.
It is still unclear how the landslide occurred. The police began an investigation. According to the Swedish Meteorological Institute, no exceptional amounts of rain have fallen recently.
Because new landslides cannot be ruled out, police are urging people to avoid the area.
