Abdulmalik al-Houthi considered that Morocco’s position on the Palestinian issue contradicts the feelings and aspirations of the Arab and Islamic societies. He expressed his disappointment at what he described as the great disconnect between the actions of the Moroccan government and the values of Islam and the Quran. In addition, he stressed that there is a clear difference between the policies of the Moroccan government and the feelings of the Moroccan people. He praised the continued resistance of Moroccans to normalizing relations with Israel, and pointed out that there is an “ongoing movement” in the country in support of the Palestinian cause.

Historically, Morocco has been a vocal supporter of the Palestinian cause and advocate for Palestinian rights. Since the outbreak of war between Hamas and Israel in October 2023, King Mohammed VI, who chairs the Al-Quds Committee, has repeatedly called for a ceasefire. The kingdom has also sent humanitarian aid to Gaza, including food, water and medicine. In July, in his Throne Day speech, the king stressed the need for a real solution to the Palestinian crisis and called for a two-state solution, with Gaza as part of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
