Jahan Dotson: The deal was a shock, but I got goosebumps when I was on the field on Saturday

Wide receiver Jahan Dotson sat out the Eagles’ third preseason game on Saturday, but enjoyed his first experience with his new team.

Dotson arrived in a deal with the Commanders on Thursday and watched his teammates take on the Vikings from the sidelines at Lincoln Financial Field. The Pennsylvania native and Penn State graduate said the experience helped him get over his initial shock at being let go by the team that selected him in the first round in 2022.

“Yeah, you know, it was just a shock because all I know in the NFL is the Washington Commanders,” Dotson said, via an edited transcript of the team’s post. “At the end of the day, it’s a trade and I understand that a lot. Everything happens so fast, you can’t react to it, but you know, I would say being here today and being on the field and taking the field and taking it all in one small piece, you know, I’m super excited. It gave me goosebumps, leaving the field today, just because Philadelphia grew up only an hour or an hour and a half away from here, you understand the passion. You understand how much people care about the Eagles. Seeing the fans go crazy, literally after the third preseason game, it was exciting. It got me a little excited to be here.”

Dotson said he’s “never been on a team with this much talent” and is working hard to improve the offense enough to be a contributor as soon as possible. That should make for a busy two weeks before the Eagles take the field in Brazil to face the Packers, but the payoff from the prep sessions could be huge for everyone involved.
