John van den Heuvel regrets the choice of Royce de Vries

John van den Heuvel was not present last month. Unveiling of the memorial By Peter R. de Vries at Leidseplein in Amsterdam. He talks about this in front of the Shownieuw cameras. (See video)

“I think it’s a shame, but it’s also no secret that we (Peter R. de Vries and John, the editor) didn’t have a good relationship in the year before he died,” the crime journalist admits. “It seems that the surviving relatives took over this ‘legacy,’ especially Royce. I don’t have the best understanding of that.”

“Then I understand if they want to unveil such a monument,” John admits. (See these pictures below)They choose guests they have a good relationship with. I understand I wasn’t there, but that’s a shame.”

Despite this, John hopes that he and Royce will be on good terms again, but he doesn’t think that will happen anytime soon.

No goodbye

Before Peter’s death, the crime reporter had entered into a controversy over the fact that the latter had become close friends with the main witness, Nabil B., in the trial of Ridouan Taghi. In his book “The Day Inside”, John expressed what it felt like for him that the two had stopped speaking to each other before the moment of Peter’s death. (See video below).
