Privacy-friendly chat app Session has 1 million active users – IT Pro – News

Well, I don’t use session because it depends on a Cryptocurrency Project. I have no interest in that. I would rather people run the server of their own free will/ideality than get paid for it. I would do that myself (for example, I also run a grid-attached array server), but not now. Moreover, in that case you would have to invest money before you could run the node (currently around 900€!). Sorry but no way. It should be accessible.

It doesn’t always have to be about the money, and then you attract the wrong people (especially during blockchain hype like a few years ago). All these people running the network want to have a say in how things are arranged and are primarily concerned with the financial results of their investments rather than really caring about privacy.

I’ve also seen this with the LoRa encryption project. HeliumPeople started throwing access points in the air everywhere with dollar signs in their eyes without thinking about how the network itself works and where the capacity is needed. All this leads to unnecessary traffic in the already limited 868MHz band. Alternative project: web of things It does this on an amateur and ideal basis, and this simply works much better as a network. And it’s free. This is really what ideal is.

I understand they do this to prevent attacks on their anonymity, but you can also work around that with a contract reputation system. So I’ll skip that.

But it’s good that they have so many. It’s good that people are open to alternative chat apps. But once crypto comes along, I’ll leave it.
