Nintendo Shuts Down Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, Works on Paid Version – Games – News

objective:

It’s great that Nintendo has made this choice. For gamers in general (see above), for gamers who already pay for Pocket Camp, but also for the franchise in general. There are (to my knowledge) no Animal Crossing (related) titles outside of Nintendo’s own platform.

Almost off topic:
Let’s not pretend that Nintendo is setting a trend here. Plenty of developers have shown for years that games can still work with a one-time payment. We see many of these types of titles on both mobile and PC. Players then pay upfront, in-game, for example, to remove ads/unlock all content or for downloadable content.

In mobile gaming in particular, it has long seemed like everything “should” be free. In my opinion, it changes the mindset of some companies and some players. The focus is then on profitability and conversion. The result: less innovation and design in gameplay/playtime.
In my opinion, in-app purchases for consumables (hearts, lives, coins, time), multipliers (experience points, rewards), and some direct actions (such as seasons with unique rewards) always detract from the quality and experience of the game.

I understand very well: profit is important, but maybe we don’t need 1000+ match 3 games (or there are a lot of developers/games that make people resort to this kind of practice).
