A lawsuit over unpaid overtime, a lawsuit over losing an afternoon show and switching to 100% NL: Rob van Someren has had a tough few months. “I found it really tough. Then I was allowed to tell four to six jokes every day and have fun with each other, while in reality there was just one box of misery hanging over my head,” Rob says in Podcast “That was the radio.”

Earlier this year, Rob won a lawsuit over his salary. The radio maker had not received a bonus for years, even though it was stipulated in his contract. “After about five years, I started asking what happened,” Rob says of the bonuses. “It had been a long time coming, going from management to board level, and other agreements had not been honored.”

Ultimately, Rob wanted to agree to the agreements in court, but Radio 10 wouldn’t agree to that either. The disc jockey then went to court, which agreed with him.

Afternoon

Then Rob lost his afternoon slot on Radio 10 and had to move to the weekend. According to Talpa Networks, Radio 10’s parent company, there was no connection between the two cases. “I thought it was just a coincidence,” Rob says in the podcast. The radio DJ also challenged the decision in court. Now Rob is right: Radio 10 was not allowed to remove him from the afternoon slot.

“It wasn’t a period I look back on with pleasure,” Rob says. “There’s always a moment when the situation explodes. We’re left with the fragments that were created in the past. I can’t stand injustice and I’m glad I did the test. I may not have one.” The verdict In the world of radio, however, it might make people think. Labor law also applies to disc jockeys.

Rob will soon start working at 100% NL, where he will be heard again on weekdays between 4:00pm and 7:00pm. “It won’t be another month,” says Rob.
