Now that Rob de Nijs (81) is increasingly ill, difficult conversations also have to be had. In the new “Linda”. He tells his wife Jett (55) that it was recently decided that Rob would no longer be resuscitated if something serious happened. This is all the more surprising, because according to her, Rob is still clinging to life.

“This is in Rob’s best interest: he won’t come out well.”

“He’s getting worse quickly,” Jett explains. “Rob is getting confused about a lot of things, especially time and space. It’s hard for him to know if it’s morning or evening, what year it is or what house he’s in.” According to Jett, there’s “little relaxation” at home. “We’re so close together that leaving the care bubble for a while is not an option.”

However, the two still have moments of happiness. For example, because they were recently able to sleep next to each other again in a special hospital bed with a connecting bed attached to it. “That’s where our happiness lies. And also in holding hands. Or watching a film with our twelve-year-old son Julius. Eating breakfast together in that bed, delicious among the crumbs – these are our moments.”

Unfortunately, tough decisions also have to be made. After his last hospital visits, during which he also underwent mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, he was asked what he would want if something serious happened. According to Jett, this was discussed extensively and the doctors agreed that Rob should no longer be resuscitated. “It’s in Rob’s best interest: he’s not going to come out of it well. Rob understands that, but he’s very doubly so, because he wants to live so badly. He’s taking over life.”

Rob himself heard this a while ago in a video message:
