US intelligence agencies say Iran is responsible for attempts to influence election campaigns. The FBI, among others, wrote this in a statement.

“We observed increasingly aggressive Iranian activity during these campaigns, targeted influence operations, and cyber operations targeting campaigns,” the intelligence community wrote. Joint Statement.

According to the FBI, the Iranians tried to access both Republican and Democratic campaigns in order to “sow division and undermine confidence in democracy.” It has not been announced whether the hacks were successful.

Trump’s confidant

It became clear this month that the FBI is investigating hacking attempts targeting the campaigns of President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican nominee Donald Trump. In Trump’s case, the hackers were said to have succeeded in gaining access to the personal email account of Roger Stone, a prominent Republican and Trump confidant.

Trump said on his social media site, Truth Social, that the hackers were able to obtain “general information only.” Iran has so far denied the hacking attempts.
