Vikings, CB Stephon Gilmore agree to one-year deal

Free agent linebacker Stephon Gilmore has reached an agreement in principle with the Minnesota Vikings on a one-year deal worth up to $10 million including $7 million guaranteed, his agent Jason Chayot of Sportstar Inc. told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Sunday.

The Vikings called up Gilmore for a visit last week, with coach Kevin O’Connell saying before the meeting that he has a “huge amount of respect” for the five-time Pro Bowler.

Gilnor played the 2023 season with the Dallas Cowboys, who acquired him from the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a fifth-round pick, and had a standout season, starting all 17 games and finishing the season with two interceptions and 13 passes defensed.

He will turn 34 in September and underwent offseason surgery to repair a torn labrum.

Gilmore’s consistent play helped the Cowboys weather the loss of linebacker Trevon Diggs to a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee after two games. He was an immediate leader in the locker room and helped develop Diggs’ replacement, DaRon Bland, who set an NFL record with five touchdown passes and led the league with nine interceptions.

Gilmore was the 2019 NFL Defensive Player of the Year with the New England Patriots. In a career that saw him play for five teams, he had 31 interceptions in 165 games.

ESPN’s Todd Archer contributed to this report.
