Linux Mint 22 based on Ubuntu 24.04 released with Cinnamon 6.2 for desktop – Computer – News

It also has a number of disadvantages:
-Unverified apps cannot be rated in Mint, so users cannot judge whether an app is trustworthy or not. It would be better if the warning was there as well as the rating (somewhat like Arch, where as an AUR user you can also judge how popular something is and what rating the software gets).
– “Verification” is about whether there is a link to a page from a developer, who doesn’t necessarily have to be the app developer themselves. It creates a bit of a false sense of security.
– There are a number of popular programs that you as a user might want to install that are not verified: VLC, darktbable, Chrome, Spotify, Steam, and Visual Studio Code are some examples that immediately caught my attention.

Fortunately, in Linux there are always many roads that lead to Rome 😉 I find Flathub useful for installing some things quickly, but I don’t use it at the moment (I’m currently testing EndeavourOS :-)).

For example, it loads faster and more information can be found using Flatpaks, for example when they are not verified.

@TijsZonderH – I thought you couldn’t install it yourself and see it when searching for unverified programs. You have to click on one of the options in the program panel first.
