But Skubal, the Tigers’ star player, will not start Tuesday for the American League in the 2024 All-Star Game at Globe Life Stadium in Arlington, Texas. American League manager Bruce Bochy has named Burns — not Skubal — as the starting pitcher.
The Midsummer Classic begins at 8 p.m. Tuesday, with Skopal available to play from the bullpen.

Burns, a right-handed player for the Baltimore Orioles, will take the mound to face the National League starter. Paul Skinisa right-handed rookie for the Pittsburgh Pirates, to open the All-Star Game at Globe Life Stadium.
National League manager Torey Lovullo selected Skinis, who had a 1.90 ERA in 11 games, over the Atlanta Braves’ left-handed pitcher. Chris Salewho has an earned run average of 2.70 in 18 games.
“Paul is a great player in this game,” Lovullo told reporters in Arlington on Monday. “I just wanted to make sure the world got a chance to see him.”
As for the American League, Burns – like Skinis in the National League – is one of the more popular players, but Skubal deserved to be the starter based on his performance throughout the season.
Skubal, 27, has an ERA of 2.41 with 21 walks and 140 strikeouts over 116 innings in 19 games in his fifth season. Burns, 29, has an ERA of 2.43 with 25 walks and 110 strikeouts over 118⅔ innings in 19 games in his seventh season.

Burns, a four-time National League Most Valuable Player, won the 2021 Cy Young Award as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers. Skubal, a former ninth-round pick and the 2024 American League Cy Young favorite, will make his first All-Star appearance.
