Now you can compare it to other platforms that are incomparable. Given the history of the PC and the way Windows has become what it is now, it would be very strange if Microsoft suddenly forced its users to use apps from their own app store only. In fact, I think many users will say goodbye to Windows.

This has been the case since day one with Apple’s platform. All Apple users have always known how it works. Many software developers have been able to create apps because of Apple’s policies that would not have existed otherwise. Many users of Apple products would not even dare to try another smartphone platform. So, because of Apple’s policy, many users have been added who would not have been there otherwise. Precisely because Apple has always enforced security and consistency.

These users are now being stolen by the EU. And why? Not even because users are protesting en masse. I would understand that. But it’s not users who are protesting, it’s companies. Companies that didn’t innovate and implement Apple’s success model, but are now trying to profit from it.

I agree with you on this point, the user should have the choice. Not the software providers. They should stick to the policy that Apple has created and that has attracted so many users. It seems that users do not want this choice at all. I do not know anyone with an iPhone who would want to install an app that is not in the App Store only. Yet now one company is going to put the EU in its favor so that it can make money at the expense of Apple and its users.

Remember, this actually gives users less choice. Eventually, Epic (and possibly other major providers) will move all of their apps to their own app store. As a consumer who wants to play a particular game, you have no choice but to install the Epic App Store. Suddenly, you’re a target for marketers who really want to scam you out of money. Of course, this is also possible on Apple’s platform, but it’s subject to strict rules. I can always see what subscriptions I have currently, how much they cost, when I can cancel them, and all of my subscriptions in one overview. We’re going to lose that soon.
