Today, two famous Vlaardingen residents received the City of Vlaardingen Medal for their efforts for the city’s cultural identity. It is the TV duo Bassie & Adriaan, or Bas and Aad van Toor.

The brothers, aged 88 and 81, played an important role in educating the children, according to the municipality. Mayor Bert Wibinga also praised the contributions to social well-being, the local economy and the media industry. Regenmund.

He said Wijbenga was in a happy mood today. “The TV shows were often set in well-known places in Vlaardingen. Fans often visit the city to see the places featured in the series. I am honored to have been able to feature these young heroes in this way.” On Bassie and Adriaan’s Instagram page, you can read that the brothers are very proud to be honorary citizens of Vlaardingen.

Bas van Tour can now also call himself an honorary citizen of the municipality of Vlaardingen.

Because that is what a recipient of the Vlaardingen City Medal would be called: an honorary citizen. The medal honors residents who have committed to the city and community in a special way.

Ad received the medal this afternoon at City Hall, while his brother Bas was surprised at home. He suffers from an autoimmune disease and is in a wheelchair. And this is not the first award for the brothers: in 1997 they were appointed Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau.

The duo has been active in the artist profession for more than forty years. For years the roles of Basie and Adrian were performed by men. The series of the same name was shown on television from 1978 to 1996, and has since been repeated frequently.

In 2003 the brothers went on a farewell tour. At the end of last year, Basi and Adrian were seen on the silver screen with a documentary about their lives and work.
