On the second day of the DelfSail Maritime Festival, Queen Máxima christened two ships of the shipping company Koninklijke Wagenborg in the port of Delfzijl.

The Queen arrived at the port around one o’clock in the afternoon. She was received by King’s Commissioner René Bass, Mayor Ben Visser and the administrators of Wagenburg. The Shantykoor Magellan Singers from Delfzijl provided a musical welcome to the royal visit.

Maxima first spoke to shipbuilders. She then christened two Wagenborg ships built at Delfzijl. Both ships bear royal names: Maxima and Alexia. It is intended for transporting products such as paper, steel and grain. The ships were built at the Royal Nesteren Sander shipyard.

It concluded with a boat tour

The Queen continued her visit with a cruise through the port of Delfzijl, which until Sunday will be entirely dedicated to DelfSail. From the boat I watched many of the ships in port for the nautical event, sailed along the pier and spoke with the captains of some of the tall ships.

In May, the Queen also visited North Groningen. She then paid a regional visit with King Willem-Alexander to Het Hoogland and Emsdelta. During that regional visit, the royal couple spoke with residents and businessmen about, among other things, the agricultural sector, shrimp fishing and the quality of life in the region.
