A far-left activist group has claimed responsibility for an arson attack at a Tesla factory near Berlin. According to Vulkangruppe, this was an act of protest against the car manufacturer, which was forced to halt production on Tuesday.
A fire was discovered in a power pole near the factory on Tuesday morning. As a result of the fire, the electricity was cut off and the factory was evacuated.
The fire brigade arrived at the site to put out the fire. The police are investigating the incident. After consulting with the local energy supplier, Tesla concluded that production could not be resumed quickly.
“We sabotaged Tesla today,” Volkangruppe wrote in a letter obtained by the news agency. Data Protection Department. Tesla is under fire for exceeding wastewater limits at its factory in the eastern state of Brandenburg.
Activists are also demonstrating against Tesla’s factory expansion plans, which would require cutting down part of the forest. The demonstrators have been occupying the forest adjacent to the car factory since last week. Local residents also spoke out against the expansion.
The German factory site covers an area of 300 hectares, but Tesla wants to add 170 hectares to that area. This space will be needed, among other things, for a train station to supply goods, storage halls and a childcare center for employees’ children. Tesla produces about 300,000 cars at the site annually, but wants to increase production capacity to one million cars.
In response to “It is very stupid to stop producing electric cars instead of fossil vehicles,” Musk said.
