The “first Rolex smartphone” costs a fraction of luxury watches

Realme comes with a smartphone whose design is inspired by a luxury watch like the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust. The Swiss watch brand was not mentioned in the advertisement for the Chinese phone brand.

Realme is a company that basically wants to differentiate itself with the price-quality ratio of smartphones. The Chinese brand usually offers powerful devices with unique features at competitive prices.

Realme 12 Pro+ “Rolex Edition”

In terms of brand awareness, there is still a lot to gain for Realme in Europe, but the so far unofficial Rolex release could be a big step in this regard. The smartphone was designed by Olivier Savio, a designer known for his dedication to traditional Swiss watchmaking.

The Realme 12 Pro+ ‘Rolex Edition’, as it’s widely known, has what we think is a nice aesthetic, decked out in blue leather and gold accents. This is clearly a reference to the Swiss brand’s watches. The smartphone’s circular camera island and central strip pattern are clearly based on the Swiss design ethos.

Android smartphone specifications

As for the technical specifications, although the full details are still under wraps, the Realme 12 Pro+ is rumored to feature a 6.7-inch FHD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The smartphone is likely to be powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 octa-core chipset.

The Rolex-style smartphone is said to feature a triple camera setup, consisting of a 4-megapixel main sensor, a 50-megapixel wide-angle lens and an 8-megapixel telephoto lens. The camera module of the Realme 12 Pro+ is likely to offer up to 120x zoom.

Formal cooperation or not?

Various media outlets write about an official collaboration between Realme and Rolex. But there was no mention of the collaboration in the statements posted on the Swiss watch brand’s social media. The message from the Chinese phone brand only indicates that it is a collaboration (referring to Ollivier Saveo), where it only says “experience the style of a luxury watch with a smartphone.” One of the creators made the ad below, but as far as we’ve checked it’s not official.

Realme itself has a clever marketing department anyway. Without mentioning the watch brand, everyone now associates the Realme 12 Pro+ with Rolex. Leave the counterfeiting to the Chinese, as evidenced by these shamelessly fake cars. The release date and retail price have not yet been announced. But judging by the price of the previous devices, the Realme 12 Pro+ costs a fraction of the average Rolex price.
