In a letter to Flemish ministers Hilde Crevits and Zuhal Demir, American doctors have expressed their concerns about the construction of an ethane cracker planned by the British chemical company Ineos in the port of Antwerp, De Standaard reports. According to doctors, the construction of this plant will lead to a huge increase in shale gas extraction in the United States, resulting in an increase in the release of harmful chemicals. “This threatens not only clean air, but all progress on the climate crisis,” it said. However, Ineos is adamant: “Ethane cracker will not have a significant impact on the extraction of US shale gas.”
