NPO, RTL and Talpa are satisfied with NMO’s new viewership survey, the news agency reported Afghan National Police. Since the end of August, TV viewing figures have no longer been available the day after broadcast, but only a week later.
By sharing viewing figures after just one week, it can also be reported how many people re-watched the stream. The new method was requested by the channels.
A spokesperson for the non-profit says the broadcaster is satisfied with the new audience survey “and the new insights it brings.”
“If viewing figures are published a day after broadcast, the focus will continue to be on live viewing behavior and an incomplete picture of content viewing will be created,” the spokesperson explains. “The numbers actually become more relevant and important by publishing them after a short period.”
“New audience research provides a more realistic reflection”
RTL agrees. According to the channel, it is “just the first step in transitioning to a future measurement method.” “In the second and third phases, online viewing behavior will be taken into account and the viewer palette will be expanded further,” explains a company spokesperson.
According to RTL, these are “essential steps to provide a relevant and reliable picture of viewing figures in these times”.
As far as Talpa is concerned, the new viewing research creates “a more realistic reflection of actual viewing behaviour”. A spokesperson said that Talpa is looking forward to phases two and three of the investigation. “The quality of research will therefore increase and contribute to a better picture of consumers’ changing viewing behavior.”
There is no penalty for sharing linear viewing numbers
Although the viewing figures are no longer available to the general public after a day, they are available to the TV providers themselves. Ratings expert and former SBS director Tina Nijkamp still shares “highlights” of linear viewing figures each day.
She had a conversation about this with NMO. Nijkamp will not be penalized for sharing viewing figures.
