Due to a major fire at Luton Airport near London, all air traffic at the airport has been halted until this afternoon. There will be no flights to and from the airport north of the British capital until at least one o’clock in the afternoon, Dutch time.

The fire broke out in one of the car parks and spread through so many cars in the car park that part of car park 2 collapsed. The car park is located a 5-minute walk from the station entrance. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Smoke inhalation

The report stated that four firefighters and an airport employee were taken to the hospital BBC. They likely inhaled smoke.

“Access to the airport is currently limited and we ask people not to travel to the airport at this time,” the airport said. The fire brigade, accompanied by 15 fire engines, arrived at the site and was trying to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring buildings.

Luton Airport is the fifth largest airport in Great Britain, after Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester and Stansted. Last year, more than 13 million passengers were transported.
