Madness at the Van Gogh Museum by Pokemon fans: “Do not sell the ‘Pikachu with Gray Hat’ card”

The crowds of Pokemon fans are huge at the Van Gogh Museum. Since the beginning of the special exhibition, where the Grandmaster’s most famous works were given a special Pokemon jacket, collectors have become fascinated with the museum.

The exhibition brings smiling faces outside, but inside the Van Gogh Museum it can sometimes be chaotic. The museum shop sometimes has a tangle of collectors falling over each other. Once again, buyers with hundreds of euros in their hands are willing to offer this ticket to visitors who leave the museum with such a ticket.

But most people probably have no intention of selling a Pokémon card they specially obtained. “This card is priceless,” one visitor said. “It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to get it, and I think this is the first time they’ve done something like this. So I won’t be selling my ‘Pikachu in Gray Felt Hat’ card.”

Rare Pokémon cards can sometimes fetch tens or even hundreds of thousands of euros when viewed online. Cards associated with the Van Gogh and Pokémon collaboration can also be found online. “The fact that they printed 75,000 of them might mean it will be one of the rarest cards ever,” says one visitor.

The exhibition will be held in the run-up to the fiftieth anniversary of the museum’s founding. The brand collaboration, which stems from the TV series and game, should attract a new audience. The Pokemon paintings will remain on display until early January.
