Opel is required to recall more than 16,000 Opel Corsa E vehicles worldwide. Strange reason: The electric car has exhaust gas metering problems. Kind of strange for a car with no exhaust, but the rules are the rules.
For a manufacturer to recall a model due to a problem is not in and of itself new. But sometimes there are situations that confuse drivers. It wouldn’t be more curious than a recall from Opel, however: The electric Corsa-e must return to the workshop due to a failed emissions test.
A full electric car
The reason: Even with electric cars, the government must be able to conduct dynamometers at all times in accordance with legal requirements. This also applies to the Opel Corsa-e, although this fully electric car does not emit any exhaust fumes.
16,605 cars worldwide
Due to a bug in Opel’s software, according to a spokesperson, “it is impossible to carry out a test bench measurement with the car to prove that emissions regulations have been met”. The recall affects 16,605 vehicles built between October 2019 and May 2022.
Recovery takes 45 minutes
“We have already started looking for customers in Germany to update the software for the affected vehicles,” said an Opel spokesperson. A visit to the Opel Service Partner workshop is free for the customer and takes about 45 minutes.
