NPO Radio 2’s Top 2000 program is celebrating its 25th edition this year with a ‘gift to listeners’. On the occasion of the anniversary, the “list of lists” will be expanded this year with an additional 500 songs under the name The extra 500.

Numbers 2500 to 2001 will run on the menu during the day from Monday 11 to Friday 15 December, DJ Bart Arens announced on his show on NPO Radio 2.

“We are adding more color to the end-of-year atmosphere in December with this additional broadcast week,” Peter De Vries, station director of NPO Radio 2, said in a statement. “The Top 2000 must of course remain the Top 2000: this year’s list can also be heard from Christmas to New Year’s Eve,” says de Vries.

The extra 500 It’s based on the same voting as the Top 2000, so no additional voting is necessary. From December 1 to 8, listeners can submit their favorite songs again. This year’s list will be announced shortly.

Since 1999, the still very popular program has been broadcast at the end of the year. The first edition was intended to herald the year 2000 with a one-off music campaign, where listeners could submit a single song accompanied by a personal story or memory.

But the Top 2000 was a huge success, and after that NPO Radio 2 decided to broadcast the idea every year. In 2007, the program won the Golden Radio Earpiece Award, the audience award for best radio event. In 2013, the program attracted 10.8 million listeners.

Every year, shortly before New Year’s Eve, the last song – the No. 1 – of the Top 2000 can be heard. This was the nineteenth time in 2022 bohemian rhapsody From the queen. The English band’s song has failed to reach the top spot only five times in the last 24 editions. The last time this happened was in 2020, with Dani Vera taking over roller coaster First place.
