The 23rd annual Sammys award ceremony will return next Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Gaertner Performing Arts Center.
The Sammy’s is the school’s student, faculty and staff award ceremony in recognition for hard-working service and prestigious effort such as community service, academic achievements, as well as some faculty members for their much put-in efforts.
Sakibul Neeloy, a sophomore mass communication film major and one of the four emcees explained that there are various Sammy’s categories. The categories ranges from Best Student Leader from each classification, best recreational awards, and awards for organizations such as student organizations and religious student organization.
“People that you really don’t know, but you see them on campus,” Neeloy said. “But then you see them on stage, you’ll be like ‘oh that’s what he or she does? That’s incredible.”
Special performances will also be taking place at the Sammy’s.
The Department of dance has a special tango performance and there’s the SHSU Jazz ensemble, and the emcees will be doing a little something as well.
If you want to take photos with friends, winning recipient , there will be a picture wall where all of that can be taken. The emcees will also be having photo shoots.
Dress code for the Sammy’s will only be formal, black tie.
“We want it to be a like a Oscar-sih vibe to it so we recommend to students to come in dressed professionally such a nice dress or a nice suit,” Neeloy said.
All are welcome to attend and the event is free.
