After an informal board meeting last week, vice president-elect Lance Weaver filed a police report alleging that he was assaulted by current president Chris Yancy outside of the Lowman Student Center.
The allegations, which are still under investigation, claim that Yancy “physically struck” Weaver after the two left the LSC on Thursday, according to UPD deputy chief James Fitch.
“Basically, there were just discrepancies within SGA,” Fitch said. “The investigation is still ongoing. We usually talk to everybody involved a second time and then look at the witness statements.”
After statements are made, the evidence will be turned over to the district attorney, who will decide whether or not charges should be pressed against Yancy.
Fitch said no charges have yet been made, but he expects them to be after the conclusion of the investigation.
“Every case we handle, ultimately the DA decides whether to take the charges,” Fitch said. “It is up to the Dean of Students Office to determine [academic punishments].”
