Guest lecturer Dr. Gary LaFree will tackle issues of terrorism, homeland security, and crime in his lectures on Feb. 23 in the Kerper Courtroom in the Criminal Justice Center.
LaFree is one of the featured Beto lecturers for 2005. He is a professor in the department of criminology and criminal justice at the University of Maryland.
In his lecture at 9:30 a.m., he will address developing a criminological agenda for the study of terrorism and homeland security. At 2 p.m. he will discuss crime and democracy.
LaFree’s recent work covers national and international crime trends. He is also co-developing a terrorism database covering acts of terrorism from 1970 to 1997.
“All of our Beto chair lecturers are top-known criminologists,” said Kay Billingsley, representative for the college of criminal justice. Billingsley encourages all students to attend.
