SHSU’s Symphony Orchestra and SHSU Chorale will give its first concert on Oct. 12 at 7:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church.The show will be an hour of song selections conducted by SHSU music professor Carol Smith.”It’s going to be a really neat concert, about an hour of music,” said Smith.Performances will includes “Liberty Fanfare” by John Williams, “Sing Ye to the Lord” from Israel in Egypt by George Frideric Handel, “Romance in F Minor,” Opus 50 by Ludwig van Beethoven and “Zigeunerwieisen,” Opus 20 by Pablo de Sarasate.”Sing Ye to the Lord” is also the song that SHSU chorale will perform at the Texas Music Education Association conference.”Allen Hightower will be conducting this piece and his wife, Kristen, will perform “Mariam”,” said Smith. Andrew Wilson, SHSU violin professor, will be featured during the performance and will perform two solo pieces. Following a brief intermission, the concert will conclude with Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s five-movement piece “Capriccio Espagnol,” Opus 34. Concert tickets are currently on sale. Prices are $8 for adults and $5 for all students, not just SHSU students. “This is the kind of thing people will definitely enjoy,” said Smith.
