Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant is no longer connected to the power grid

This was announced by the International Atomic Energy Agency, which still has a small number of inspectors at the site. The UN agency was informed by Ukrainian technicians trying to keep the plant running despite the war.

With a backup line, power can still be supplied to the external electricity grid via a nearby thermal power plant. This facility also allows the nuclear complex to obtain its own power if necessary.

The Ukrainian authorities told the International Atomic Energy Agency that the new separation was the result of “Russian bombing in the region.” There was already a similar incident on August 25. Then the disconnection was temporary.

collapse

International Atomic Energy Agency chief Rafael Grossi on Friday expressed concern about the safety of the nuclear power plant, which in his view stands or collapses with a “reliable electricity connection.”

Nuclear power plants sometimes rely on external energy to cool reactors. If not, the nuclear power plant will rely on diesel emergency generators. If something goes wrong there, for example due to a lack of fuel or a defect, a breakdown could become possible.
