The Porsche 911 Sport Classic appears in showrooms and some collectors are eager to buy a copy. In fact, a Porsche dealer in the US is adding $250,000 to the new price.
Someone on Reddit noticed the ridiculous price hike and forwarded the information to the US website The Drive. They checked with the traders whether the price hike was correct. The seller confirmed the strange price hike.
It’s about a Californian Porsche dealer called Porsche Redwood City. The Sport Classic’s original suggested retail price in the US is $272,300 (249,781 euros). With options, this particular copy will come out for $288,910 (265,017 euros).
Limited to 1250 copies
The dealer thought this was a bit low for the Porsche 911, of which only 1,250 copies were made, so he decided to raise the new price by $250,000, or 86.5 percent.
This brings the total for the 911 Sport Classic to an astronomical $538,910 (494,343 euros). A US dealer is within his rights as he can charge a ‘dealer markup’ on top of the suggested retail price. This is not allowed in the Netherlands. “That won’t happen,” says a spokeswoman for Porsche importer Bonn.
Strong manual 911
The Sport Classic is a powerful 911 with a manual transmission. Equipped with a 3.7-liter Porsche with two turbos, the Sport Classic is strong at 550 hp (405 kW). The car also features a seven-speed manual gearbox and the so-called ducktail spoiler, which has been on the Porsche 911 RS since 1973.
The car features unique interior details such as unique wheels, carbon fiber components and gold badging and houndstooth-mounted seats, also known as ‘piet-de-boul’. The Sport Classic accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.1 seconds and has a top speed of 315 kmph. In the Netherlands, the Porsche 911 Sport Classic costs 376,285 euros.
