The National Institutes of Health said 30,000 to 40,000 people will be involved in the study and will use digital data, including the input of wearable devices.
“We know that some people have turned their lives upside down by the long-term effects of Govit-19,” said NIH Director Dr. Francis Collins.
“These studies are aimed at identifying the root cause, preventing this often debilitating condition and finding the answers needed to move victims on the path to recovery.”
These postoperative cases are often referred to as long-term effects of long-term goiter, long-term covit, acute covit-19, covit or chronic covit. Effects “SARS-CoV-2”, Collins said at a news conference.
“Persistent symptoms arise in many organs. The most common symptoms are pain, headache, fatigue, so-called cerebral palsy, shortness of breath, anxiety, depression, fever, chronic cough and sleep disturbance. Multisystem in children or MIS-C and adults-MIS-A. PASC also has inflammatory syndrome.
It is not clear what causes these symptoms, and the study will try to find out what they are.
Is there a defect in the immune system that does not heal after this infection? Is it the cause of metabolic imbalance? Collins asked.
He added: “We do not know. The diversity of symptoms and presentations leads to the belief that chronic goiter is not just a case.
“We can only solve it through very large studies that collect a lot of data on symptoms and physical findings and laboratory measurements.”
The National Institutes of Health said it would encourage the hiring of researchers for people of all ages and races, pregnant women and many others – a wide variety of patients. Researchers will include patient input – an extraordinary approach that Collins says will ensure that this study covers all sites.
Surveys also include data from wearable devices. Collins said the study was set up in months, rather than the usual multi-year process for something much larger and more complex.
The study is being funded by the $ 1.15 billion congress that was earmarked specifically for the long-term Govt study as part of the $ 1.9 trillion U.S. bailout signed into law last March.
Collins said $ 470 million for the study would leave money to start research on possible treatments.
The National Institutes of Health says it will study whether the various treatments used for acute cases of Govit-19 affect the long-term risk of Govt, whether the vaccine poses a risk, and whether those with only mild symptoms of the corona virus. Infection
