NU.nl regularly provides you with an overview of the situation in Ukraine. This time: Ukraine wants to use commercial companies to recruit new people to the army. The United States and NATO say they will underline their support for Ukraine this week.
The Ukrainian government’s plans to recruit new men to the army are likely to be explained this week, according to reports. Guardian. The British newspaper spoke to Ukrainian Security Council member Oleksiy Danilov. According to Danilo, the government mainly wants more clarity on what role ordinary Ukrainian citizens can play within the armed forces.
“Some people are afraid, afraid to die, afraid to shoot. But that doesn’t mean you can’t contribute in other ways,” says Danilov.
To achieve that goal, the government uses commercial recruitment agencies. It should bring citizens with certain abilities into better focus. “For example, the army needs welders. We’re now going to announce those kinds of positions so people can sign up for them,” Danilov explains. According to him, Ukrainians really want to do their part, but not directly forward.
With the new approach, the government wants to avoid forced mobilization in case of shortage of personnel. This will not only create great fear but also encourage corruption. Local authorities will arrange fee waiver documents.
America wants to clear doubts about support

“This is part of the process of making room for Ukraine within the alliance, because that’s where Ukraine’s future lies,” said James O’Brien, the US State Department’s ambassador to Europe.
With the planned statement, the U.S. appears to want to dispel doubts about its commitment to the struggle in Ukraine, especially now that the war between Hamas and Israel demands almost all of the attention.
