Ubisoft: Development of the new version of Prince of Persia passes a major milestone – Games – News

I don’t get it, because franchises that are huge hits are worth a huge amount of money. It’s a bit like existing perks are hanging on Life Support with all those tweaks being hit or miss, and little new being added. That’s pretty stupid in a market that keeps growing, right? Especially when you consider that every time a big-world game comes out (that promise of a new world, or something to explore), people line up. Bethesda’s trick, for example, is with Starfield. The promise of this new world alone sold this game, because let’s be honest, it’s nothing more than Fallout with some space scenes in between and a lot of loading screens.

The Witcher 3 sold that vision as well. Baldur’s Gate 3 Ditto. Skyrim. Saucepan. Warframe. Cyberpunk. etc.

Why isn’t there? Because contributors aren’t ambitious in a world dominated by a few big, deep-pocketed publishers and a number of established franchises that still make money. Everyone gets their annual gift, we’re in control, that’s good. ActiBlizz was recently acquired by MS. Blizzard, the company that once housed the heart and soul of gaming. Say it. People would rather be busy building storefronts and cloud services around you No more games for sale but subscription So you have less control over the code; Mods and cheats have been successfully eliminated, so they can sell you a 5% XP boost and continue the drip feed of content. And of course you can apply all the other tricks the store has to something that should actually be entertaining. Because yes, according to the letter of the law, “Isn’t that the way it should be?”… Why would you come up with something new if you can make it so easy? Every now and then, thanks to terrible profit margins, you get some new publishers and studios, and you’re done. Why do you think Valve never counted to 3? They have steam. And now the deck. History repeats – no new content, but new ways to play and pay for that content.

You will find new “franchises” if you look at the indies, although the sequel may still be in development there :)
