TikTok expands AI content labeling, ‘helps clarify context’

TikTok plans to personalize photos and videos created using artificial intelligence (AI). The video app says it wants to try to prevent the spread of misinformation on the platform.

The company is already categorizing AI-generated content created using the tools in the app. This new move also allows videos and photos created outside of TikTok to be flagged and then uploaded.

The social media platform explained in a statement, “Artificial intelligence offers amazing creative capabilities, but it can confuse or mislead viewers if they do not know that the content was created by artificial intelligence.” “Labeling helps clarify this context. That’s why we named it AIGC (Artificial Intelligence Generated Content, Mr. Dr.) created using TikTok AI effects, and we’ve been asking creators for a realistic AIGC rating for over a year.

Watermark

To recognize uploaded AI content, TikTok uses technology developed by Adobe and Microsoft, among others. Using this technology, TikTok gives AI photos a watermark.

According to TikTok, tagging is possible as of today. This will also soon apply to audio content.

Earlier this year, Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, reported that it was working on an AI image classification capability. Google also said last year that AI stickers would soon appear on YouTube and other Google platforms.

A European law is coming that will lead to clear rules surrounding the biggest technological development of the moment. This was announced in March. The law specifies what is prohibited and what AI applications are permitted, but under strict conditions.

Last month, musicians expressed concerns about an AI tool that produces music. There had already been unrest among the Dutch voice actors earlier. Supermarket company Aldi has replaced the voice actor in its commercials with artificial intelligence.
