This way you get more out of the phone app

We all connect with our smartphone, but did you know that there are a lot of settings to adjust in the calling app on your Android device? We’ve listed five for you.

Despite the fact that you can do almost everything on your smartphone nowadays, it is primarily a device for making calls. Of course you need a SIM card with enough calling minutes and a calling app on your smartphone. In this article, we show you five helpful tips for getting the most out of your calling app. Try them yourself!

1. Announcement of the caller

Are you getting a call but your phone is out of reach? Then you can have your smartphone announce who is calling. To enable the setting, open the calling app, select the three dots at the top right of the screen and go to Settings. Under the “Advanced” heading, select the “Caller ID Announcement” option.

Under the Read Caller ID option, you will see three options, namely, Always, Only when using a headset, and Never. What these options do is obvious, of course, but we like to use the second option. When you’re on your bike, you don’t have to pick up your phone knowing who’s calling.

2. He turned to silence

Do you get a call (with or without an announcement) and you don’t feel like it or have time to answer it? Then you can of course decline the call by pressing the button or swiping away, but you can also choose to flip your device. Then the call is automatically rejected. You still have to enable this function manually.

Go to the settings menu in the communication app that we talked about earlier. There you scroll to the “Advanced” heading. Here, tap on the “Turn to Silence” option and flip the switch. Make sure your phone is on a flat place, like a table or desk. Otherwise, the function may not work optimally.

3. Customize quick replies

“I’ll call you back,” “I can’t answer right now,” and “Is everything alright?” are examples of quick responses you can give when someone contacts you. Handy to use if you are in a crowded room with a lot of ambient noise. Your smartphone then sends a text message, so you don’t have to pick up the phone.

There is also an option to send a custom message, but you have to write it yourself each time. With the Quick Replies heading in the communication settings, you can easily set the predefined answers to your desired message or language.

4. Transfer the call

Do you use many smartphones, or is your co-worker the place to be? Then you can easily transfer calls. To do this, go to the connection settings, select “Call accounts” and click on your SIM card with the provider. Here you will see the Call Forwarding setting.

You can choose from different scenarios. Do you always want to convert or only when you’re busy, don’t answer or don’t have coverage? By clicking on one of these options, you can add a number (from your contacts). You can also associate different numbers with multiple options.

5. Block numbers

Does the number calling you turn out to be someone you’d rather not receive calls or texts from? Then you can block this number. There are several ways to do this. For example, by pressing and holding the number from recent calls and clicking on “Block / Report Spam”.

You can also dive into the call settings and go to Blocked Numbers. Here you will find an overview of the numbers you have blocked and unblocked if necessary. You can also choose to block all incoming calls from unknown numbers. This way you know exactly who is calling you.
