New iPhones get USB-C

The iPhone 15 (Plus) and iPhone 15 Pro (Max) will almost certainly have a USB-C connection this year. The European Union has passed a new law stating that all new electronic devices must have a USB-C connection from November 2024. This should reduce electronic waste in the future.

Apple anticipates this law by equipping the entire iPhone 15 series with USB-C connectivity this year. Earlier, an image of the iPhone 15 was leaked, which indeed showed a USB-C port. New images of almost the entire iPhone 15 series have now surfaced, showing that all models will have a USB-C connection. This is what the new USB-C port looks like.

The first image shows two USB-C connections for different iPhones. Now another image has been shared showing a third USB-C input. This is for the new USB-C port for iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. This means that Apple will say goodbye to the Lightning adapter with the new iPhone series this year, which we still find in the iPhone.

The iPhone 15 is not expected to work optimally with every USB-C cable. If it were up to Apple, only cables with MFi certification would soon be able to handle a maximum charging speed of 27W. Moreover, this faster charging standard will likely only come to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max with the new USB-C port.

With the iPhone 14 (Plus), the highest charging speed is still 20W, which will likely remain the same with the iPhone 15. So, for the faster charging standard, you’ll have to switch to the Pro models again, just like with the iPhone. 14 Pro (Max). Then the iPhone 15 (Plus) USB-C port supports 20W, and the iPhone 15 Pro (Max) port is slightly faster at 27W.

All iPhone 15 rumors together

With a USB-C port, the iPhone gets a new entrance for the first time in eleven years. In 2012, Apple introduced the Lightning adapter with the iPhone 5, but it has now been permanently deleted. It remains to be seen if Apple will put a new adapter in the box with the iPhone 15, or if you’ll have to buy it separately. Since the iPhone 12, Apple no longer supplies an adapter with a new iPhone.
